Kathryn considered driving into Launceston and seeing Robert again but didn’t want to push her luck. She had given her word. Jax was just starting to let his guard down, and he might be a bit of a softy underneath. She really didn’t want to screw things up right now.

There were some local caves she could go and visit, and a sanctuary for Tasmanian Devils. She would take lots of pictures, and it would add local color to the article.

It was three-thirty when she headed up the driveway to the farm. Jax came out onto the veranda and waved. Boy, he was gorgeous. So was the weather as she got out of the car. She could offer to wipe his brow if he wanted, or drench him with cold water so the shirt stuck to his torso. She was getting hot between the legs just thinking about it.

The inside of the house was cool, and Kathryn sighed as Jax showed her around. Teddy stayed outside on the veranda, as if he was keeping guard. There was a big farmhouse kitchen opening onto the lounge, and four bedrooms and an office off the hallway. Kathryn couldn’t help herself and wondered where the letters would be. Jax said his dad had one side of the office and he had the other.

In the lounge room, there was a big open fireplace. On the coffee table were two big boxes with an assortment of Christmas decorations in them.

“Would you like a cold drink? It’s another stinker of a day again,” Jax said.

“I’d love one.” She started to sift through the decorations and found many were homemade with names on them. It was lovely, and she ran her finger over one big bauble with the name Bruce on it. She tried not to smirk.

Jax came back with her drink and pointed to the other box. “This one is for the tree, so I’ll leave it for my nephews to do. Dad likes to tell them where to place things. He’s a bit of a control freak.”

The next hour they spent climbing up the step ladder and sticking tinsel and streamers all around the lounge. She was surprised at how much she enjoyed it, considering she never did it. He talked of his sisters, and she chatted about some of the crazy jobs she had done over the years.

“Once I dressed as a guy to get into a man’s club to get some info. I got found out. I reckon I couldn’t tape my boobs down flat enough.” She suddenly went red when she realized what she had said. Jax laughed out loud, and she liked the sound.

“Not meaning to be rude, but they’re not small, so I’m not surprised.”

Kathryn smiled knowing he had been thinking about her breasts. She found some fake mistletoe and moved the stepladder over to the doorway so she could hang it up. She bit her bottom lip, wondering if he was watching her. Before she had a chance to find out, her foot slipped and she fell backward as she tried to admire her own handiwork.
